The Decision Capability Unit is a new grouping at the LSE, hosted by the Operational Research Group in the Department of Management. By Decision Capability we mean the potential aptitude of individuals, groups and organisations to take decisions effectively. The focus of new centre is on how that aptitude can be developed and realised, an innovative position that necessarily draws on both descriptive and normative decision theory. We are broadly concerned with the processes of forming preferences, making judgements, assessing uncertainty, trading-off conflicting objectives and taking decisions.
